Videos!

Yeasayer did a session at Minnesota's The Current recently, and here's a clip of "Tightrope:"

I Guess I'm Floating posted a new video for the Lykke Li song Tonight. It's probably one of the most emotional music videos I've ever seen. 4 minutes of still camera, no cuts, focused on Lykke, who looks like she is going to cry through the whole thing. This performance is much more moving vocally than the album version, also. IGIF ripped it to MP3, so if you want to dl it, head over there. Her myspace has another video directed by Christian Haag, amongst other much-better-than-average music videos.

More Animal Collective, Passion Pit Studio Video, New Music and more

Animal Collective has a semi-studio release of "What Would I Want Sky?" (previously referred to as "Blue Sky") from a BBC session. It was recorded 3 days ago on Jan. 25th.
Also, there's a version of Lion in a Coma from MPP from the same session.

Passion Pit is about %30 done mixing their debut LP, according to this video:

If you haven't heard the The Golden Filter yet, here's a taste:
The Golden Filter - Solid Gold
Peter Bjorn and John - Lay It Down(Golden Filter Remix)

The video for solid gold is amazing, too:

If you're in the mood for a little bit of indie power-pop, here's your fix.

Harlem Shakes - Sunlight

They've got their full-length debut on the way, due out in march.

I just found this guy (Theophilus London) via Neon Gold Records and it's pretty good. Here's a track off "This Charming Mixtape" that was released the 25th:

Amadou & Mariam - Sabali (Theophilius London Remix)

This will probably go somewhere this year. Oh, and the mixtape is a free download (click on his name up there for his myspace).

Pittsburgh noise/psychedelia band Black Moth Super Rainbow has released a clip reel of songs from their upcoming LP release, Eating Us.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Eating Us Mashup

I just found these guys, so I don't know really what to expect, but I'm diggin the clip reel for sure.

And lastly, Muxtape is back online. After the RIAA had it shut down last year (much to it's own detriment, if you ask me) Muxtape is back as a minimalist version of myspace for bands. Basically, artists upload songs and allow users to create mixtapes. Right now there are 12 artists available (of Montreal, Cexman, Adron, Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, Apes and Androids, Old Gold, Reggie Watts, Amanda Palmer, Tony Bambino, and Vulture Reality) and "in the coming weeks [muxtape] will begin allowing bands to sign up themselves for free."
Pitchfork cited some info about giving bands an opportunity for download and merch sales. It should be pretty cool, if you ask me. I'll keep my feelers pointed at it.

Oh, almost forgot. It's -3 and clear as a bell here with clouds expecting to pick up later in the day, ultimately reaching a high of 18 degrees.

New Animal Collective music video

AC released the new video for My Girls off Merriweather Post Pavillion on Jan, 14, and apparently I missed it. It's a pretty cool vid, though. Melting people, stars, yellow squares undergoing mitosis, and a close-up performance. You can almost tell how they are making those noises. Almost.

Silver Jews no longer, Lily Allen sober?, Animal Collective bootleg, and more!

Yesterday, Silver Jews frontman David Berman announced that the band would be no longer. "I guess I am moving over to another category. Screenwriting or Muckraking. I've got to move on. Can't be like all the careerists doncha know." Berman also revealed that his father is the wholly evil son-of-a-bitch, Richard Berman, A prominent DC lobbyist. I understand why you kept it in the dark.

In more amusing news, Lily Allen claimed in an interview with longtime friend Damien Hirst that she was done drinking "for the forseeable future" but that "[she'll] just take cocaine now without any alcohol." 'attagirl! Possibly confirming the latter statement, she accidentally texted a topless photo of herself to Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs followed immediately by a text to this effect "Opps, wrong Ricky." Sober. Yes. As a Bird.

On the classical front, 13 'lost' works from composer Felix Mendelssohn are finally going to see the light of day shortly before his 200th birthday.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are releasing a new album It's Blitz sometime in the near future. This announcement was made by a handful of chicks and a raccoon. Seriously.

And lastly, NYCTaper has released a bootleg of the Animal Collective concert from 2 days ago (Jan 21st) at the Bowery Ballroom. It features a new (as in not on MPP) track, "blue sky" and some wicked good sound quality. It has been claimed as the best AC bootleg available, and I have no reason to dispute the claim.

And in Houghton news, it is currently 6.4f with blowing winds up to 15 MPH and a 100% chance of 1-4 inches of lake effect snow.
